Aug. 9, 2011 - PRLog -- Precision Trials, a leader in Phoenix area clinical trials, welcomes Desert Springs Cancer care to its network. The physicians at Desert Springs believe that optimum healing is a team effort that integrates emotional ease and physical wellness with life-saving infusions to create the path to recovery, a philosophy that parallels the other outstanding medical practices within the Precision Trials network.

The physicians at Desert Springs Cancer Care look forward to a lifetime partnership with their patients.  Imagine medical treatment administered from the customer-service model of one of the world's finest hotel chains such as the Four Seasons, and you will catch a glimpse of a cancer care environment that is more than a "cut above" other options available in the Greater Phoenix area.  "We take great care to provide a soothing and supportive environment for our patients, paying close attention to the relationships we have with their families and their primary care physicians," says Director Patricia Wuensche, MBA.  "We provide very careful notes to our referring physicians so that the patient's over-all care is coordinated, and we pace our scheduling to ensure that each patient's time with us feels unrushed and comforting.  Patients and their caretakers can even request Spa services and a massage while on-site for infusions. We want them to take a deep breath, relax, and feel that Desert Springs is their safe haven the minute they walk through the door."

Desert Springs Cancer Care is unlike any other cancer care facility in Arizona.  A flowing water sculpture in the center of the patient treatment area is back-lit by the natural light reflecting from the Scottsdale foothills.  The walls curve in soothing organic shapes, creating a comfortable flow between private consultation rooms and the sunlit infusion areas.  "We know that attitude and emotions play a huge part in the healing process," says Dr. Lesley Meng.  "We want to surround our patients with a force-field of support...to make their sessions with us something they look forward rather than dread. You will not see white coats, stethoscopes and stark examination rooms.  We have comfortable recliner chairs for our patients in soothing colors and textures, and above all, an up-beat staff selected for their caring attitudes and trained to anticipate the needs of our patients and their care-givers."

Dr. Meng brought the graciousness of southern hospitality with her when she re-located to Arizona from New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina.  She is a board certified Medical Oncologist trained in the treatment of solid tumors, including breast, lung, colorectal and prostate cancers as well as hematologic malignancies such as chronic lymphocytic leukemia, chronic myelogenous leukemia and multiple myeloma cancers. Named one of America's Top Oncologists in 2008, 2009, 2010 by the Consumer Research Council of America, a 2011 "Top Doc" by Phoenix Magazine, and Arizona's Favorite Physicians in 2009 and 2010.  Dr. Meng has been appointed as a Master of the American College of Cancer Specialists by the American Academy of Oncology and is a board member of the Arizona State Physicians Association and the Arizona Foundation for Medical Care.

Desert Spring's co-founder Dr. Andrew Buresh is board certified in Medical Oncology and Hematology.  He completed his residency at the University of Arizona Medical Center, and served as Chief Fellow at the Arizona Cancer Center in Tucson, AZ,  where he began to develop his philosophy of  Oncology treatment. Dr. Buresh envisioned a compassionate treatment environment anchored in the belief that when patients and their families are well educated and informed about their treatment options and supported in their choices, they have a better sense of control, well-being and their quality of life improves. Dr. Buresh provides patient-centric treatment of a broad range of clinical Oncology and Hematology disorders:  gastrointestinal, breast, lung, and genitourinary malignancies as well as myelodysplasia, coagulation disorders, lymphoma, and myeloma.

In May, 2011, Dr. Tara Iyengar joined the Desert Springs treatment staff.  A graduate of Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and Rutgers College, Dr. Iyengar has participated in numerous studies relating to the development of new cancer treatments. Formerly a Drug Development Scholar At TGen Clinical Research Services in Scottsdale, AZ, Dr. Iyengar broadens the application of genetic medicine and research to the patients and families at Desert Springs Cancer Care. Dr. Iyengar is board certified in Medical Oncology, Hematology, and is a member of the American Society of Hematology, American Society of Clinical Oncology, and the American Society for Blood and Marrow Transplantation. Adding additional resources for testing for genetic predisposition for some cancers is yet another way that Desert Springs Cancer Care serves the cancer community.

Drs. Meng and Buresh give back to the community as preceptors for ancillary medical care students at Midwestern University and Kaplan College, providing an unparalleled cancer care practicum for students in the Greater Phoenix area. Dr. Meng is proud to serve on the speaker's bureaus for Myriad Genetics, which offers genetic testing such as BRCA 1&2, Caris Life Sciences which offers Target Now, and Genomic Health which offers Oncotype DX. "Each successful clinical trial is a new drug added to our arsenal," explains Dr. Meng.  "We believe that combining our dedication to cutting-edge medical research with a pleasant, light-hearted treatment environment lets us practice 'healing' in its truest sense."
