Precision Trials Participates in Hospital Study of FDA- Approved Intravenous Acetaminophen

Jan. 24, 2011 - PRLog -- Intravenous Acetaminophen has been approved and in use in Europe and elsewhere for the reduction of pain and   fever.  On November 2, 2010 Cadence Pharmaceuticals, LTD, following additional clinical trial received Drug Administration (FDA) approval to market this drug, known as Ofirmev in the United States and Canada. Precision Trials in Phoenix, AZ was the highest enrolling study center, and the FDA review of their reports resulted in a notation of  "no findings," indicating exceptional reporting and adherence to study protocol.

 

Precision Trials was one of 17 sites that participated in the pain studies for patients undergoing both abdominal and laparoscopic hysterectomy. “The studies were very complex, with round the clock pain assessments by our coordinators at the bedside of the  study volunteers.  Study participants benefitted from the one on one contact and care by our staff during their immediate post-operative period,” said Dr. Steven J. Wininger, Medical Director of Precision Trials.


Approval for intravenous use of Acetaminophen (the substance found in a specific class of pain relievers such as Tylenol), is significant for a number of reasons. Opioids such as morphine or oxycodone have numerous negative side  effects that can complicate recovery, such as nausea and constipation. Other Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) like ibuphrophen and aspirin can cause additional post-operative complications such as bleeding and intestinal inflammation.
