By: Fresh Ideas, LLC, Marketing and Public Relations What is a Clinical Study? Clinical research studies are conducted to gather information about the safety and effectiveness of potential new medical treatments. In order for a new treatment to be made available to patients, data from multiple research studies must be collected and analysed. Every clinical research study follows a plan that is designed by medical professionals. This plan is called a protocol, and it outlines the tests and procedures that must be conducted during a study. The protocol also describes the requirements of every person who participates in the study. To qualify for this CIN/HPV study, participants must be in the greater Phoenix area, and must: Be over the age of 18. Be newly diagnosed as having CIN 2 or 3 of the cervix associated with high-risk HPV. Not have received prior treatment for CIN 2 or 3. Not be pregnant or planning to become pregnant during the first 6 months of participation in the study. Be willing to use two birth control methods, one of which should be a barrier method such as condoms during the first 6 months of the study. HPV is a very common sexually transmitted infection. At some point in their lives, most men and women will get a HPV infection. The term HPV refers to a group of more than 100 related viruses. In women and men, low-risk types of HPV can cause genital warts, while in women, high risk types of the virus can cause pre-cancerous changes on the cervix. These precancerous cells in the cervix may result in a condition called cervical intraepithelial neoplasia, or CIN. CIN 1 indicates that only a mild abnormality of the cervical cell growth is present. A diagnosis of CIN 2 or 3 describes conditions where the extent of abnormal growth of cervical cells is more severe and may develop into cancer if not treated. What is the Purpose of this study? This clinical research study will involve an investigational agent that is designed to help the immune system recognize and destroy the abnormal cells caused by the high-risk HPV infection in the cervix. If the investigational treatment is shown to be safe and effective, it could provide women with another treatment alternative to the procedure that is now being used. This research study will be conducted in North Central Phoenix, AZ, at Precision Trials, LLC, 3815 E. Bell Road, Suite 4500, Phoenix, AZ, 85032.
