Follow on Google News | Celebrating American Heroes, DHA's 21st Annual Walk for the Animals, Oct 2nd in Wilmington, DECelebrating American Heroes, DHA’s 21st Annual Walk for the Animals on October 2nd, a day of fun and fundraising! All proceeds benefit Delaware Humane Association, a no kill animal shelter, and its mission as carried out in a four state area.
The Walk itself, a leisurely loop around Banning Park, is just one part of the day. The festive atmosphere, music, refreshments, pet-friendly vendors, demonstrations from the Academy of Dog Training and Agility and the New Castle County Police K9 Unit, the always popular Pet Contests, and a moonbounce for the kids make this a perfect outing for the entire family. Mike Rossi from WSTW will be on hand to add his special brand of humor to the festivities, and participants are invited to dress their dogs in a "heroic" costume and let them strut their stuff. Join in the fun, bring your own big and small heroes, and help a worthy cause. Adoptable dogs from DHA will also be on hand, and who knows, you just might find yourself a new hero that you want to take home! The Walk for the Animals is DHA’s biggest fundraiser of the year, and proceeds support its mission as it is carried out throughout a four state area. In order to continue carrying out this mission, DHA needs your support for the Walk for the Animals. Walk as an individual, or gather your friends, family and coworkers to form a team! DHA almost reached their fundraising goal of $95,000 at last year’s Walk, and in spite of the economy they hope to meet or exceed this year’s goal of $100,000. We are committed to providing for the needs of homeless dogs and cats in our community. Serving over 5,000 companion animals annually through direct intervention and many more through advocacy, we continue to promote the humane values of protection, care, and compassion for all living things. We envision a future where all people and their pets live healthy, happy and long lives together. Our mission is to act as a voice for companion animals and to enhance their welfare by providing temporary shelter, low cost spay/neuter services, vaccination clinics, humane education programs, and adoption/placement resources. We rely on the support of the community in the form of volunteers, donations, bequests, and fundraising events.
