Follow on Google News | One year to go – London 2012 Olympic Games themed advertising campaigns are launchedWith only one year to go until the opening ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games, well known brands are launching their Olympic themed advertising campaigns to increase awareness of their official Olympic partner status.
By: Rachel Kaye Olympic Partners launching advertising campaigns this week include Holiday Inn and Thomas Cook. The Holiday Inn brand, which is part of the InterContinental Hotel Group, is the official hotel partner of the Games and is therefore offering customers 50% off hotel stays booked on the 27th July to celebrate ‘one year to go’. Another major brand sponsoring the Games is Thomas Cook, who are promoting their ‘Games Breaks’ packages on their dedicated London 2012 site which offers Olympic ticket and hotel deals. Thomas Cook have developed their London 2012 website to promote their official Games packages, the new venture is likely to have created new marketing jobs in their Peterborough head office. Other advertisers including: BP, British Airways, Samsung and EDF energy are also launching Olympic themed campaigns. Aviva, who are based in Norwich, are not an Olympic partner but are a long-term sponsor of British athletics and are launching a campaign to promote its Aviva Athletics events coinciding with other Olympic advertisements. It is expected that Sainsbury’s, which is a Paralympics partner will launch an advertising campaign to mark one year to go in a couple of weeks. Over the course of the coming year leading up to the Games, the number of Olympic themed advertisements and promotions is likely to increase as it presents such a good opportunity for brands to connect with consumers and further promote their brands. This increase in marketing activities in relation to the Olympics will have required extensive investment by companies in their marketing budgets to cover the advertising costs as well as the investment in new marketing jobs to support their Olympic Games themed campaigns.
