JDRF is the leading charitable funder and advocate of type 1 (juvenile) diabetes research worldwide. The mission of JDRF is to find a cure for diabetes and its complications through the support of research. Type 1 diabetes is a disease which strikes children suddenly. It is treated by multiple injections of insulin daily or a continuous infusion of insulin through a pump in order to maintain their health. Due to the unexpected and life altering occurrence of Type 1 Diabetes JDRF has established 6 unique ways to provide support. First they provide a Family Network for community, secondly they offer Newly Diagnosed Support, thirdly they coordinate Diabuddies, a program child centered and peers focused, fourth they sponsor Parent Coffees, a forum event for encouragement, growth and further support, and fifth they provide Online Support for those affected who are unable to interact through the other programs. Lastly, JDRF provides world renowned research, seeking a cure and sharing the results to benefit affected children.
