Global output of stainless steel to rise 10% in 2011

July 17, 2011 - PRLog -- According to an estimation by Albanian Minerals CEO Sahit Muja the quantity of high carbon ferrochrome consumed in the world in 2011 to be 9 million tones.

Ferrochrom consumption in  2010 was 8.2  million tons.

Chrome ore is converted into ferro chrome through smelting with carbon or silicon. Metallurgical ferro chrome major usage is the production of stainless steel.

Chromium biggest benefit in the metallurgy ferro chrome usage is its corrosion resistance, hardness, strength and bright furnish.

These benefits allows ferro chrome to be used in the production of stainless steels, and heat resistant steel.

In the production of stainless steel, the use of ferro chrome has no substitute, so as long as stainless steels are being produced worldwide, the demand for chromite ores will exist. Up to 25% of the weight of stainless steel is ferro chrome.
Global output of stainless steel to rise 10% in 2011 to 37 million tons from 34 million tonnes last year.
Stainless steel output in Europe and US is expected to rise 5% in 2011.    
The new order  from stainless steel mills  would recover in the Q4, 2011 driven demand.

China is investing largely to become the worlds top ferrochrome producer.
China has imported 8,700,000 tonnes of chrome ore in the calendar year of 2010 .

China will expand imports of chrome ore in 2011 to a scale of 10.00 million to keep up with ferrochrome demand.
