Guide Dogs’ National Breeding Centre Complete

Guide Dogs for the Blind Association’s new National Breeding Centre at Bishops Tachbrook, near Leamington Spa, is now complete. The centre cost around £20m and will enable the charity to create 900 guide dog partnerships a year by 2015.

July 14, 2011 - PRLog -- Truro-based, international construction consultants Ward Williams Associates project managed and acted as CDM coordinators on this landmark scheme for the charity.

One of the fastest growing construction consultancies in the country, Ward Williams Associates are proud of their long term relationship, having already delivered two, £8m Guide Dog Training Schools in Forfar and Atherton, near Manchester, in a development programme spanning almost 10 years.

The National Breeding Centre project took five years in planning and construction to meet the exacting quality and production requirements of Guide Dogs’ breeding programme, resulting in a truly unique, world class facility.  The National Breeding Centre comprises a series of discrete, interlinked pavilions housing a range of functions including mating, whelping, puppies, hospital and administrative facilities.  The scheme was delivered within the charity’s funding limits, meeting all critical operational standards and deadlines.

“The Breeding Centre is a unique project, there are no comparables,” explains Martin Ayliffe, Director of Project Management at Ward Williams Associates. “Working extremely closely with the client ensured no interruption to the breeding operation.  It was a challenge but, in many aspects, the type that we relish.”

“The National Breeding Centre is a superb project which meets all of our expectations”, says Paul Glover, Head of Property of Guide Dogs for the Blind Association.

“This is a hugely significant project of critical importance for the charity to meet its long term objectives.  We’ve worked in partnership with Ward Williams Associates for many years which really helped in its successful delivery.”

The new Guide Dogs National Breeding Centre is operational and will open to the public later this year.

With offices in Truro, Plymouth, Bristol, Evesham and London, Ward Williams Associates’ core expertise areas are Project and Cost Management, Building Surveying and Health and Safety.  The firm has long-established relationships with world class signature architects and engineers such as Foster and Partners, Gensler, Skidmore Owings & Merrill, and Buro Happold.
