Chairman of Quality Solicitors Nalders to Retire

July 7, 2011 - PRLog -- Steve Davies who has worked for the Cornish legal firm for 28 years has now handed over the role of chairman to Cilla James in readiness for his retirement.

Steve moved from Croydon in 1983 to be Head of Probate, Trusts and Wills at Nalders, which at that time had just two offices, one in Truro’s Pydar Street and one in Falmouth.  

There has been an enormous amount of change for Nalders during Steve’s career.  The firm steadily grew and the conversion of Farley Hotel into Farley House was a significant step.  Today there are eight offices throughout Cornwall.  

Steve sees major differences from when he began at the firm in the 1980s.

“Our clients have much higher expectations today so it’s vital to provide specialists in the different legal fields.  The firm has to work as a business and since workloads have increased so much it’s vital to employ staff to manage the commercial aspect of the firm. In 2004 Nalders was accredited with the coveted Lexcel standard which currently is held by only 9% of all law firms. This is clear evidence we are at the forefront of offering a professional and client focussed quality legal service.”

There are many challenges ahead especially with the opening up of legal services to non law firms which will change the way legal services are provided to the public.  Steve sees changes ahead and comments:

“Many legal firms may not be fully aware of the significance of these changes and the emphasis will be very much about offering focused and cost effective services to our clients and being prepared to go the extra mile in the legal advice we offer.”

He is confident that Nalders will continue to flourish, and although the firm has been established in Cornwall for over 225 years the staff are determined to remain the first choice for everyone seeking legal advice. Joining the rapidly growing Quality Solicitors network is a recent example of Nalders wanting to be at the forefront of innovation and change to ensure the firm offers the best possible quality service.

Looking back over almost four decades it is his clients that Steve says that he will miss the most in his retirement.  

“Supporting clients through the probate process is incredibly rewarding.  Although our clients may be experiencing a difficult time, we are here to support them and to deal with all the legal requirements which is a great aid to helping them move on.”

Steve also admits that he’s going to miss everyone at Nalders.

“We’re a family and I’ll really miss the buzz.  I’d like to thank the Partners and the staff for all of their support over the years.  I can’t imagine any other line of work, I’ve had a wonderful life in law and that’s down to the people that I’ve worked with.”

Over the past decade as Senior Partner and then Chairman of Nalders LLP Steve has also offered support and guidance to both staff and partners and has seen a significant growth in both the firm’s legal services and expertise it offers to clients.   Steve will be very much missed by colleagues, clients and connections of the firm.”

Steve has enjoyed bringing his three children up in Cornwall and is looking forward to his retirement.  Living in Truro he plans to play more golf, globe trot and learn a new language.  He’s also planning to deliver on a long standing promise to Mrs Davies that he will learn to cook!
