| Event extravaganza on Swansea’s Big ScreenSwansea’s Big Screen in Castle Square is host to three fantastic events this weekend, 2 - 4 July 2011 and they are all FREE!
By: City and County of Swansea On Saturday, 2 July the Lloyds TSB Olympic Torch Tour arrives in Castle Square to take the public on a journey through Olympic Torch Relay history, have your photo taken with the prototype London 2012 Olympic Torch and learn about the history of the Relay. Experienced Lloyds TSB representatives will also be on hand to advise you how to nominate someone who’s made a difference in your local community. The nominated person will carry the Olympic Flame as part of the London 2012 Olympic Torch Relay and make a supporting nomination video in the Lloyds TSB bespoke taxi. Watch the gripping Wimbledon men’s final on the Big Screen in Castle Square on Sunday, 3 July with a tennis taster session from 11am – 1pm. Settle back in free deck chairs to watch the action live from 2pm. The Royal Opera House screens the first of two operas on Monday, 4 July with the wonderful Madame Butterfly from 7pm. Puccini at the very peak of his powers: a young geisha girl is callously abandoned by her American husband. Sung in Italian. First performed in 1904, Madama Butterfly tells a contemporary tale of culture clash when a Lieutenant in the US Navy, Pinkerton, decides to contract a marriage with a Japanese geisha without any commitment on his side. The devastating impact of Pinkerton’s carelessness is played out in music influenced by authentic Japanese sources amplified with Puccini’s Italianate passion.
