Follow on Google News | Chance to abseil Maritime Museum tower for charityFor the second year running people will have the chance to abseil from the tower of the National Maritime Museum to raise money for disadvantaged children in Cornwall.
By: BF Adventure More than 60 people took part in 2010 and organisers are hoping more intrepid soles will want to abseil down the 95ft tower, which overlooks Falmouth harbour. Britta Hoffmann, marketing manager for BF Adventure, said: “Last year we had a fantastic mix of people brave enough to take on the challenge. “This included a 60-year-old lady who had overcome illness and was scared of heights, as well as a guy on his stag do who had no idea what his friends had planned for him. We also had a group of BF Adventure volunteers and former clients supporting us.” The money raised will help BF Adventure develop its work to support more disadvantaged young people in Cornwall to have a brighter future. Greenbank Fal River Festival director, Toby Budd, said: “This a great opportunity to raise some money for a fantastic charity, as well as have a great view across Falmouth harbour. “As it is running on the same day as the Fal Fish Festival we’re hoping that we can beat last year’s figure as we know there is going to be a lot of people in Events Square. “With Rick Stein opening the Fish Festival we may see if we can get him to have a go!” Registration costs £12 and anyone 11 years old or over can take part. The event runs from 10am to 4pm.
