Grantham University Selects Navy Veteran, Vincent Seiferd III, as 2011 Outstanding Graduate

May 3, 2011 - PRLog -- Kansas City, Mo. – Grantham University, a 60 year old institution delivering accredited online degrees to working adult students around the world, has selected Vincent Seiferd III as its 2011 Outstanding Graduate. Seiferd completed his Master of Business Administration – Information Management degree at Grantham University, graduating Summa Cum Laude with a 4.0 GPA in April of 2009.

On April 5, 2011, Dr. Jeffrey Cropsey, vice president for strategic initiatives at Grantham University, presented Seiferd with the Outstanding Graduate Award at the Distance Education and Training Council’s (DETC) 85th Annual Conference in Williamsburg, VA.      

“I was honored to present this award to such an outstanding candidate,” said Dr. Cropsey.  “Vince truly embodies what it means to be a successful working adult student. He took the knowledge and skills that he learned from his courses and applied them to his career to increase his effectiveness as a leader and manager.”  

Since the inception of the DETC Outstanding Graduate Program twenty-eight years ago, Grantham University has awarded this honor to one of its graduates each year.  Criteria for this award include a GPA of 3.5 or higher, evidence that the graduate has made significant contributions to society and his/her chosen profession, as well as an essay submission demonstrating the graduate’s application of knowledge and skills acquired in the online classroom  to his/her career and community.
 
“My personal view is that every action we take is based on a mix of knowledge and experience from our past,” commented Seiferd. “My motivation to earn my degree was to become the most well-rounded professional by increasing both my educational level and personal experiences.”

Seiferd works as a Systems Engineer for the Program Executive Officer for Command and Control, Communications, Computers at U.S. Special Operations Command.  He manages high-level information technology projects for both strategic and tactical communications data and voice systems, including satellite communications and Full Motion Video.  He is responsible for ensuring that our service members are able to communicate, so they can complete their missions as effectively and safely as possible.  

Before becoming a systems engineer, Seiferd followed in his father’s and grandfather’s footsteps by serving in the United States Navy. Prior to separating from active duty, he received the Defense Meritorious Service Medal while leading the communications team supporting the Central Command Deployed Headquarters.
