| Courthouse Center for the Arts Summer Education ProgramsCourthouse Center for the Arts is accepting registrations for its Theater Arts and Creative Arts camp programs for summer 2011. The two-week Summer Theater Programs are held July 5-15 and 18-29. Both include a field trip to New York City.
The two-week Summer Theater Programs include Jungle Book and Camp Rock July 5-15 and the Young Theater Voices of 2011 July 18-29. Jungle Book and Camp Rock both include a field trip to a show in New York City. The programs teach elements of the theater from voice classes and technique, scenic art design, mask making, playwriting, monologues, dance and auditioning. We are also introducing a commercial class. “These programs help students develop imagination, creativity and communication skills,” said Russell M. Maitland, executive director of the Courthouse Center. “They give students an opportunity to work in an ensemble setting to showcase their talents.” Each program culminates with a 60-minute performance incorporating each of the students and their unique talents. In addition to the theater programs, there are eight week-long Fine Arts classes offered. Students can choose from Animal Art, Textile Arts, Cartooning, Painting, Creative Writing, Bead Mania, Film and Photography. A four-week session of Guitar Master Classes is also offered. Cost of the two-week Summer Theater programs is $585 for members, $660 for non-members. Fine Arts programs are $100 for members, $125 for non-members. Guitar lessons are $200 for members, $250 for non-members. These summer camp programs are perennial winners in Rhode Island Monthly’s Best of Rhode Island and a 2009 Nickelodeon Parents’ Pick.
