Chiniot is well known in the whole world by its good quality furniture and antique style buildings and furniture also. The history of Chiniot is very old yet considered in the time of Alexander the Great, passed it while he and his army were going to Multan.

The name of CHINIOT it self has a mystery and there are many reasons against this name. The most romantic and applicable is “CHANI”+ “OAT”; the combination of two Punjabi phrases, where CHANI means moon and OAT means “Behind”, as the city is covered from one side in mountains. Some also denote it as “CHANIWATT” on the name of a RAJA, which reshaped with the times as CHINIOT.

The beauty of Chiniot lies in its ancient art work of furniture which is still alive with the amazing combination of new technology.

There are still many buildings which tell us the glorious history of the city Chiniot. The Badshahi Mosque of Chiniot is a wonderful piece of art and historically there are only two mosques in the world with sameness of tombs, and pillars, one is in Turkey, and the Second is in Chiniot.
The great and still living art sample but the most tragic event in the history of Chiniot is, the Umer Hayyat Mehal. There is a great work of wood, and the tiles were imported at that time from Japan. The history of Umer Hayat is that he was a rich merchant, having one son, and he gifted this Mehal to his Son on his weeding, but the unfortunate son died with her wife on the same day, which assumed as a murder. The graves of the whole family are in the same mehal.

The food of Chiniot is also very famous in the whole world almost. The main dish is KUNNA or called as MATKA GOSHAT. It is the traditional dish serve with Nan. The other famous dish is BHAAT, or NURATAN, as there gathered 9 items in a single plate which contains plain rice, fish and so on.

There is a monoment which tells us about our brave Army. An Indian aero plan tried to hit the bridge which is between Sargodha and Chiniot on Chanab River during 1971, but the great Army of Pakistan hit it  (Mujahid Batalin 22, Company Cap.Rana Asghar Ali and co) and the tail of the plan is there to tell the world that we know to save our country.

Spiritually the Chiniot is also very famous. On the bank of river, there is a place called SHAH SHARAF, which is the devoted place of Hazrat BOO Ali Qalandar, and history says, that LAL Shabaz Qalandar also visited there.
