April 23, 2011 - PRLog -- On April 15th, 2011 The Gamma Omega colony of Beta Theta Pi raised over $2000 for the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life event at SMU. The colony had two separate teams to promote competition between their newly initiated members, and older active members. Team captains were: Alex Saucedo, Spring philanthropy chair for the actives, and Jeff Robillard, president of the newly initiated class.  After many days of fundraising and selling hotdogs and cookies on event day, it was the newly initiated members who won out with the most fundraised. The team was spearheaded by a massive fundraising effort by Zachary King, who raised nearly $1000 himself.

The goal of the Relay for Life event is to raise money for cancer research by the American Cancer Society. Nearly all SMU student organizations and greek life organizations participate in this event, and in total, were able to raise almost $85,000 for cancer research. The Gamma Omega colony plans to participate in this event next year as well, and hopes to continue being the top fundraising fraternity on campus for Relay for Life.
