April 19, 2011 - PRLog -- Several months of training paid off for two of the team at Chesterford Research Park (http://www.chesterfordresearchpark.com) last Sunday as they completed the Virgin London Marathon in a very respectable 5hrs 16mins. Park Manager Katherine Maguire and her running buddy, Gym Manager Noel Cooper, who were running for the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation and MEDICS respectively, not only completed one of the toughest physical challenges but also managed to raise an impressive £4,500 for their charities along the way.

Supported by friends and family as well as being helped along by the fantastic crowd atmosphere throughout Katherine commented of the experience:  “I was incredibly nervous leading up to the race but as soon as we were underway the support of the crowds made me forget my nerves and I actually started to enjoy myself!  However, this will be my one and only marathon…although apparently I’ve been told to never say never!”

Despite the post-race high their marathon experience wasn’t without incident.  Noel pulled a hamstring at mile 17, making the last 9 miles a somewhat painful experience.  Back at the Park on crutches yesterday Noel was full of praise for the St John’s Ambulance staff who treated him en route to the finish – without whom he feels he probably wouldn’t have made it.

The Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation carries out unique research into the early detection of lung cancer.  MEDICS of Great Chesterford, provide quick response to serious incidents in the local area.
