The Power of the Personal Invitation
Morning Star Community Christian Center initiative aims towards bringing hundreds back to church
During the kick-off of this initiative on March 13, 2011, hundreds of Morning Star members could be seen wearing t-shirts with the slogan “Come Grow with Morning Star”. Many responded to the invitation of their friends and family members to join them at Morning Star.
“Our ‘Come Grow with Morning Star’ kick off turned out to be one of our most attended worship services of the year,” said Senior Pastor Therman Evans. “God moved on the hearts of our members to really catch the simple and age-old concept, of the Great Commission and commit time reaching out to, praying for, and inviting others.”
Morning Star has decided to step up their efforts and energy on church outreach. “We are concentrating on several strategic community outreach events”, says Pastor Evans. Currently, Morning Star serves more than 15,000 families each year with the community food bank, offers job counseling, housing seminars, SAT Reviews for high school students and various other programs that are open to the public.
Pastor Evans continued by saying, “Our church is passionate about feeding the spiritual, social, and emotional needs of the community by putting the Word into action…we are believing God as we seek to foster and build a strong community”.
According to a study of church attendance, "The American Church in Crisis," most Americans say they believe in God, and many say that they regularly attend worship services. The survey found only about 20 percent of Americans actually show up in church on any given Sunday.
Through this initiative, Morning Star outreach events such as bowling, summer block parties and barbeques in the park, is providing alternatives to empower their members to invite their friends. The message of growth is penetrating the pews and generating both interest and excitement at this local church.
