March 30, 2011 - PRLog -- Depression and anxiety are perhaps the most common challenges faced by people in modern society. Many individuals are unaware of the sources and causes of their depression and stress.

This new informational sample offered free by the College, provides practical ways of identifying and changing both the distant and immediate causes of depression and anxiety.

Human beings are complicated, and while there is a wide variety of causes of depression, including biological and psychological factors, the most common source of depression is from childhood experiences that have shaped one's thoughts and attitudes about self, about others, and about one's circumstances. Childhood emotional or physical abuse and abandonment are often seen in individuals who experience chronic or recurring depression.

Depression can be recognized by low mood, feeling down or blue, crying, low energy, loss of interest in usual pleasurable activities, and changes in appretite and sleeping patterns. People who are depressed, male, over 50 years of age, living alone, divorced and unemployed are at the highest risk for committing suicide. Knowing how to talk to someone who is depressed and suicidal, could save his or her life.

For much more on depression and skills for talking to individuals facing severe feelings of depression and anxiety, see this free download http://www.ctihalifax.com/images/CureDepression2.pdf
