March 29, 2011 - PRLog -- Tomatoes are delicious vegetables and you don’t need a big garden to grow them. Most of the time you only need a container or a bucket to start growing tomato plants.

What are the benefits of growing tomatoes upside down?
They are grown in sterilized soil which means that they are not in contact with garden soil at all and there are no diseases either. You don’t need a big garden only a bucket to start growing tomatoes upside down. Fertilizing and watering can be controlled very easily.

May from howtogrow-tomatoes.blogspot.com explains that you need to choose certain tomato plants to grow upside down, for example Gold Nugget, Tumbler, Celebrity or Oregon Spring.

May also tells what you need to grow tomatoes upside down:
1. Bucket: a round or a rectangular one. You need to drill a hole (5cm/2-in) in the top and in the bottom of the bucket. Then hang the bucket in a position of south or west exposure. It also needs overhang protection because of the strong winds.

2. Soil: remove the lid and fill the container with ¾ full with sterilized soil and blend it with one cup fertilizer. When you are done with it place the lid back.

3. Tomato plants: gently insert the roots of your tomato plant into the hole (bottom of the bucket). Once the roots are snuggled in and the greens are hanging out water your plants.

4. Try to use a basker twirler to rotate the tomato plant every week and water it daily.

5. Use fertilizer every two weeks because it helps fruit development. You can also apply granulated bone meal if your plant needs more calcium.
