March 4, 2011 - PRLog -- It is rightly said that “Teaching should be full of ideas instead of stuffed with facts.” The J.J School of Art, formerly known as the Bombay School of Art, has existed since 1857 flourishing on this very belief. This school has been responsible for imparting quality education of fine arts in India for over one and a half century. The School of Art has grown and thrived to become one of the greatest art teaching centers in India, especially in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Sir J. J School of Art was founded in March 1857 with generous donation offered by Sir Jamshedji Jeejeebhoy, the first Baronet, with the aim of teaching painting, drawing, design, ornamental pottery, metal and metal wood carving. The first Art Class was started at the Elphinstone Institution on 2nd March 1857. The sprawling campus of the Sir J.J Institute of Art is easily one of the most beautiful areas of Mumbai. Set amidst lush greenery, it houses numerous heritage buildings. The Sir J.J School of Art campus is an oasis amidst the dense urban sprawl of South Mumbai. Along with its immediate neighboring institution it forms a unique zone with dense greenery and large open spaces.
What this school tries to impart to its students at the end of the course is to build awareness in them about man's creative expressions and through the practical assignments offering them an opportunity to realize their own potentiality and limitations.
