They seized more than Rs 3 crore cash, over 30 kg of gold and several other documents from both the houses. Former Karnataka Lokayukta Justice N Santosh Hegde’s report mentioned illegal mining in Karnataka and exporting ore via Andhra to ports in east coast like Vishakhapatnam, Kakinada despite a ban on iron export by Karnataka government. The opposition parties had been pressurizing Yeddyurappa to resign following the the Lokayukta findings in which he was implicated in the illegal mining scam.
The loss to the Karnataka state exchequer due to illegal exports was around Rs 12,22,000 crore from the year 2006 to 2010.
