Android – very well known mobile operating system based on Linux kernel, developed by Android Inc, and bought by Google in 2005. In the last quarter of 2010, after 10 year ruling, Android replaced Nokia’s Symbian on the 1st place of the world’s best-selling smartphone platform! Since Android has a lot of developers writing its application programs, there are nowadays more than 200 000 applications (apps) available for Android. How does it work? Well, there exists Android Market, which functions like an online store or some other sites where you can download desired apps. iPhone – is a line of smartphones designed by Apple introduced to the public on the first days of 2007. Besides the classical features, iPhone offers a video camera, camera phone with text messaging, visual voicemail, a media player, e-mail, web browsing (both Wi-Fi and 3G), and a multi-touch screen with a virtual keyboard. There are more than 300 000 apps available in App Store and third-party web pages where you can choose among games, GPS navigation, social networking, and many other options. Tablet (Tablet PC) – we’re sure you have seen it already. It’s a personal computer equipped with a touchscreen as its primary input device, small enough to carry it around with you wherever. The term was presented in 2001 by Microsoft, however, today it is commonly used for any tablet-sized personal computer, no matter what operating system it uses. Tablets come with a wireless adapter for Internet and local network connection, and they offer you a variety of applications too; however, their components are low powered so they can’t give you full experience for demanding PC applications. Blu-Ray (BD) – is a disc designed to inherit DVD, first introduced in October 2000, while the first prototype player was introduced in April 2003. However, the official release was in June 2006. Its name comes from the blue laser used to read BDs (DVDs use different lasers). Starting from June 2009, around 1500 Blu-ray Disc titles were on the market for Australia and the UK, 2500 in the US and Canada, and as of July 2010, more than 3300 titles in Japan.
