Follow on Google News | EN62471-----European New StandardIEC 62471:2006 & EN 62471:2008 will be in formal implementation on September 1st, 2009. All the LED lights will be measured according to this standard. The transition period is one year. The previous report IEC/EN60825-1 can also be used.
By: ALICE WU 1. Standard background The purpose of IEC / EN 62471 is to estimate the optical radiation hazards of different lamps and lamp systems, and completely replace the LED products energy levels requirements in IEC/EN60825 standard, increasing the light of biological requirements, including the radiation intensity & radiation brightness, etc. Classify the products hazard level according to the test data, including the exemption level, low hazard, medium hazard, high hazard level. The EU part of the standard EN62471: 2008 has started on 2009.09.01, EN60825 part on the LED will be totally ineffective by 2010.09.01. IEC/EN60825 is mainly on the single wavelength of light to energy test calculation. IEC/EN62471 is mainly for wide-band optical measurements and comprehensive calculations the eye and skin reaction time to light, angle, and other aspects of sensitivity. 2. Applicable products All the lights & light system in addition to laser lights (Single-wavelength laser is easy to be tested, ordinary light may be a broadband light source because of the light body, lens, auxiliary devices). 3. Wavelength testing range 200nm to 3000nm wavelength optical radiation 4. Testing parameters and objects Test parameters: A. Irradiance B. radiance Test object: 1) UV damage to skin and eyes 2) Near UV damage to eyes (315nm-400nm) 3) Blu-ray damage to the retina 4) Blu-ray damage to the retina (small light source) 5) Thermal hazard to the Retinal 6) Thermal hazard to the Retinal (for weak visual stimuli) (780nm-1400nm) 7) Infrared radiation hazards to the eyes (780nm-3000nm) 8) Thermal hazards to skin (380nm-3000nm) At current market there is some low cost EN62471, which test report is still using the EN60825 standards template: change the standard into EN62471 directly, didn't change the actual content.
