Swansea's Gearing Up For Saint David’s Celebrations

Feb. 22, 2011 - PRLog -- St David’s Day is fast approaching and Swansea is all set to celebrate it's rich Welsh heritage with a week long festival of music, food, dance, poetry and culture from 26 February – 6 March.

Musical highlights include a special St David’s celebration concert with Only Men Aloud and Morriston Orpheus Choir on 26 February, Saint, Songs and Celebration featuring over 200 school children and Côr Waunarlwydd on 1 March and a Twmpath with local folk band ‘Jac Y Do’ on 4 March.

Food lovers will be able to sample culinary delights at Swansea’s famous Indoor Market and the Get Welsh Food Festival in Castle Square (26 February), or enjoy one of the special Welsh menus available in restaurants across the city.

Children can enjoy a trip along the promenade on the Dragon Train, St David’s Day Celebration at the National Waterfront Museum and a Dragon Trail at Plantasia as well as craft sessions and storytimes in local libraries.

Frances Jenkins, Strategic Manager for Tourism, Marketing and Events said "Swansea is the only city in Wales to create a week-long Festival for our Patron Saint and we have a diverse and exciting programme once again this year to celebrate what's great about being Welsh.”

Other events that have been organised for St David’s Week include textile workshops at the Glynn Vivian, World Book Day at the Dylan Thomas Centre and Tracing your Welsh Roots with West Glamorgan Archive Service.
