Feb. 17, 2011 - PRLog -- Lincolnshire, East Midlands UK: Apps Magazines is carrying out a review of all of the 250,000 different apps that are now available for iPhones and iPads, with its self described mission being to “separate the wheat from the chaff”. They have started by producing a list of what it considers to be “essential” apps which it recommends that readers download “immediately”. They have separated these 100 top apps into 20 different categories, producing a list of the top five in each category.

The Yell.com app featured in the top five essential business apps available. Regarded as “essential” in a list of already essential apps in the review, the Yell.com app “enables you to search for any business organisation or service provider – be it an ATM or a boozer – and provides an integrated map to show your current position in relation to what you are looking for”.

The international directories site is leading the way in changing their approach as more and more people are using their mobile devices to carry out their daily activities, with 14% of the total Yell.com traffic now coming from mobiles, and the app having over 1million downloads. The review concluded that “everyone needs this”.

SPB Wallet, which provides security for your financial information, Prizmo, for scanning and scoring documents using the iPhone camera, Taska, a task manager tool, and QuickVoice Recorder, for recording voice notes were the other four which made up the top five business apps.

Other categories which were of interest included a review of the best news apps, with Engadget, The Independent, the New York Times, BBC News and Metro UK making up the top five. Unsurprisingly Twitter and Facebook were included in the list of best Social Networking apps, along with Palringo Instant Messenger, Type Pad and NatsuLion. For those who like to use their mobile devices to read, the top five book apps were Fairy Tales by Hans Christian Anderson containing over 130 stories, Childrens Classics containing 16 different children’s books, Grimm’s Fairy Tales including over 200 folk tales, The Boy Who Cried Wolf and Bram Stoker’s Dracula.

For those looking to their mobile devices for help with their studies, Free French Tutor was considered well worth a look for students of modern languages, Star Walk was classed as “a pocket Patrick Moore”, Mathematical Formulas and World Countries are great for students of Maths and Geography respectively, and the Wheels On The Bus app will be educational fun for younger learners. When a much needed break from all that learning is needed, Angry Birds was considered to be a “fiendishly addictive” game, Plants vs Zombies was called “one of the funniest and most addictive apps ever”, Cut The Rope HD was regarded as “so addictive it hurts”, Monkey Island 2 Special Edition is “a great version of a stone-cold classic” and Harbor Master HD “a great little game app”.

The remaining categories that were rated were Entertainment, Finance, Health & Fitness, Lifestyle, Medical, Music, Navigation, Photography, Productivity, Reference, Sports, Travel, Utilities and Weather.
