Chelsea again look too short for a Premier League away game and punters can take advantage by laying Carlo Ancelotti’s side against Fulham at Craven Cottage.

Even accounting for any sort of ‘backlash’ from the defeat to Liverpool last time out, the Blues still don’t justify their match odds price. Carlo Ancelotti’s side have only won 3 of their last 11 away Premier League games - admittedly two of those were in succession against Bolton (4-0) and Sunderland (4-2) but neither of those clubs played to their true ability on the night. Ancelotti has won 15/32 total away games in his tenure – that’s just under 47% - and given Fulham are better than average on home soil, the long-term stats don’t reflect Chelsea’s price here. Furthermore, the visitors clearly have big tactical issues with Didier Drogba and Fernando Torres in the side. Liverpool brilliantly exposed their lack of width last Sunday and it could take quite a few games before the star strikers are able to strike up a decent understanding.

Fulham, meanwhile, have won 3 straight league games at Craven Cottage and Mark Hughes is clearly reaping the rewards of having Andy Johnson and Moussa Dembele fit at the same time. The pair have started Fulham’s last 5 successive matches and the team have been rewarded with 9 goals in the process, while just 1 defeat in their last 8 games in all competitions shows that they are becoming extremely hard to beat. They were unlucky to lose 1-0 in the return fixture at Stamford Bridge and with players such as Johnson, Damien Duff, Clint Dempsey and Steve Sidwell all extremely hard workers, you can be sure Chelsea won’t have a moments rest to play their slick passing game.

My pre-season advice was to lay Chelsea for the title - their Premiership odds are now 10/1 - and it appears the odds compilers still haven’t properly adjusted to the club’s recent demise. Put it this way - if you’d laid Chelsea for £100 in every away Premier League match they’ve played this season, you’d now be roughly £550 in profit. While if you’d backed Chelsea’s opponents for £100 in every away Premier Leauge match they’ve played this season, you’d be roughly £850 in profit. The same criteria apply here and at a price of around 1.82 on the exchanges, the visitors are worth a lay. I would also put a smaller stake on a Fulham win at 4/1, as Chelsea’s away loss ratio of around 38% this season, coupled with the Cottager’s superb home form, makes this a value call as well.

Main Recommended Bet - Lay Chelsea @ Around 1.82
Also Recommended - Fulham @ 4/1
