Royal Wedding Betting Odds

We've had to wait almost 25 years since the last Royal Wedding but with a public holiday & street parties expected around the country it’s the turn of Prince William and Kate Middleton to tie the knot this Friday at Westminster Abbey.

April 27, 2011 - PRLog -- To toast the historic occasion plenty of the leading bookmakers have odds on several wild and whacky betting markets in the build-up to the Royal Wedding - like the colour of Kate’s dress, Kate’s arrival time, rain on the wedding day, what the main wedding dinner course will be and even which airline the happy couple will use to get them on their honeymoon.

Main Royal Wedding Betting Markets

Colour of Kate’s Dress: No real surprises here with ivory the favourite shade, but white or cream are not too far behind in the betting odds, while if you what a real shock then why not put a small wager on polka dot (200/1) or even a Geri Halliwell-style union jack dress at 500/1 – now that I’d love to see!

Colour of the Queen’s Hat: Yes, all eyes will be on the new bride, but, of course, her majesty won’t escape the public eye either – but what colour hat will she don? From memory she wore light blue to Charles and Diana’s big day and it looks like the bookmakers have done their homework on a repeat with a light shade of blue the current betting favourite. Yellow, however, is another popular choice of the Queen’s if past outfits at Royal Ascot are to go on and in the betting this is not too far behind. Blue, pink and purple are next best in the betting, while, although unlikely, you could make a phone call to Clarence House and see if she’ll wear a black hat for you – if she does you’ll be rewarded with betting odds of 100/1!

Colour of David Beckham’s Tie: Sticking with the colour theme the bookmakers are homing in on one of the couples more influential guests – David Beckham - and what colour tie the LA Galaxy star will wear. Paddy Power might have some inside information with grey their clear favourite in the betting with white just behind, however, what about red to tie in (excuse the pun) with his former club Manchester United at around 8/1? Of the outsiders, orange (I’m thinking Dumb and Dumber) is big odds, or how about ‘no tie’ – it’s unlikely Victoria will let her David turn up open-necked, but if she does then you can back this at around 25/1 in the betting.

Kate’s Arrival Time: The rumour is that all the guests heading to the Abbey need to up bright and early and in place first thing in the morning. Coverage on all the main TV channels will, I’m sure, follow suit with early start times, but the business end of the big day – the ceremony – is set to start around 11am. Therefore, unless Kate’s planning on turning up on one of Boris Johnson’s new London bikes, the current favourite time is between 11am-11:02:59. That said, if you think she’ll keep Wills waiting then you can back 2mins late at around 4/1 or more than 30mins behind schedule is available at betting odds of around 10/1.

Rain on the Royal Wedding Day: Over the past 2-3 weeks living in the UK has been like residing in the Costa Del Sol, but if the chaps at the Met Office are to be proven right then we could be running out of time if we what the current hot spell to continue through to Friday. Rain to fall in the London area on April 29th is currently a best price 2/5, not great news for the happy couple – maybe there will be a new market on what colour umbrella the queen will have?

To be seen crying: Ok, so if you fancy a punt in this market you might have to read the small print – but all the big players are at the head of the betting. The bride’s mum always cries at weddings, don’t they? So, at around 6/4 Kate’s mother Carole Middleton looks a banker. Will’s first love – Arabella Musgrave, is around the 9/4 mark – but will they be tears of joy or tears of ‘that should be me’? Elton John’s partner David Furnish is also popular in this market to be wiping the tears away, while what about one of the actual couple to get out their Kleenex? – Wills is around 7/2 to go all soppy, while Kate looks another strong option to let it all out at around 5/2 in the betting.

To Catch the Bouquet: Along with the actual kiss, the first dance and the cutting of the cake, another popular wedding tradition is the lobbing of the bouquet – but which of the lady guests will be turning up with their wicket-keeper gear? Kate’s sister Philippa is the favourite in the betting with most bookmakers at around 4/1, just in front of Fergie’s girls – Princess Beatrice and Eugenie – both at odds of around 6/1. However, at 10/1 another person the media will focus on here is Prince Harry’s other half – Chelsy - the South African beauty can be backed at around 10/1 to land the catch.

Date of first born child: After marriage comes the sprogs – that’s how it works, right? So, when will Kate and Wills get down to business? The bookmakers think that once the so-called knot has been tied then we won’t have to wait long before we seeing a new member of the royal family, with ‘before April 2013’ the favourite. However, if you think Wills will be keeping his powder dry for a few years then you can back 5/4 on their first born being born after April 2013.

Main course at Wedding dinner: Ok, someone, somewhere already knows this – unless the royal chefs are preparing two mains and then picking whichever ones comes out best at the last minute! With menus etc to be printed this is unlikely, so if you see any stray cows or lambs wandering into the palace in the next few days you could be onto something. Currently based on the betting it’s a straight toss-up between beef (4/5) and lamb (5/4), with salmon not far behind at 3/1. But if you want a whacky bet here, or maybe just as a conversation piece, then why not say you had a £1 bet on corgi at 500/1 – an option open with leading Irish bookmakers Paddy Power!
