Enjoy the full Welsh Highland Railway with Ffestiniog Travel this half term

Rail specialist Ffestiniog Travel is offering bespoke short break packages to include tickets on the newly-completed Welsh Highland Railway through Snowdonia National Park.

Feb. 3, 2011 - PRLog -- The long-awaited completion of the final section of the railway officially opens on 20 April, but a special joint Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland service will run between Porthmadog and Caernarfon during February half term.

Says Maria Cook, General Manager of Ffestiniog Travel: “It will now be possible to make this historic steam train journey – said to be one of the UK’s most scenic – for the first time since the 1930s. This is a momentous occasion and demand for tickets is certain to be high.

“As sister company to the Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland Railways, Ffestiniog Travel is especially proud to have played its part in making this possible with all profits going to support the preservation of the railways”, she adds.

Departing daily throughout February half term (20-27th), Ffestiniog Travel can tailor-make packages to include accommodation, return travel on the scenic 23.5 mile steam journey and train tickets from anywhere in the UK. Children travel free of charge on the railway with a full fare-paying adult.

A two-night stay at the Celtic Royal Hotel in Caernarfon costs from £155 pp (two sharing) including B&B and return third class travel on the special joint service. Family rooms are an additional £10 per child aged 2-6 years or £30 per child aged 7-15 years for two nights’ B&B.

An escorted 11-night Wales Spectacular Tour, encompassing the Welsh Highland and Ffestiniog Railways among others, and soaking up scenery that stretches from the beautiful Elan Valley to the heart of spectacular Snowdonia, costs £1,315 pp (two sharing). The tour holds particular appeal for rail enthusiasts and departs 3 September 2011. The price includes all rail journeys, accommodation with breakfast, some meals and excursions, an aqueduct cruise, entrance fees and transfers.

Special rail events taking place on the Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland Railways throughout 2011 can be viewed here. Ffestiniog Travel can tailor-make packages to include accommodation and train travel to rail events and a range of tourist attractions in the heart of Snowdonia.
