Jan. 27, 2011 - PRLog -- The Government’s chief construction advisor, Paul Morrell, is one of several green housing experts due to talk at an event at Coventry University on Thursday 10 February 2011.

Hosted in the University’s TechnoCentre, the ‘Wireless Sensing for Smart Buildings’ conference aims to highlight the importance of energy-efficient buildings to the UK’s green agenda.

The UK has a commitment to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by at least 80% by 2050. Buildings account for approximately 40% of the carbon emissions in the UK, with non-domestic buildings responsible for half of this.

The one day conference, organised by the ESP KTN (Electronics, Sensors and Photonic Knowledge Transfer Network) with support from the MBE KTN (Modern Built Environment Knowledge Transfer Network), will discuss the pressing need for technologies that can help evaluate the energy consumption of new buildings and that of existing buildings by using Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs).

The event will bring together the Wireless Sensing community along with the building industry and major property owners, including house builders, housing associations, data centres and retailers. It will explore the information requirements of the building community and consider the suitability and opportunities for using WSNs.

The other speakers at the conference are: Duncan Wilson (Arup) John Barnham (Orbit Housing Association) Elena Gaura (Director of Cogent Computing Applied Research Centre) Amit Shah (E-Senza GmbH) Maurizio Pilu (Technology Strategy Board) Mike Perry (BRE) Marcelo Pias (Globosense Ltd) Chris Knight (ANEC Ltd) and Dr Kerry Mashford, Lead Technologist, Low Impact Buildings, Technology Strategy Board.

The event is open to anyone working in the construction industry and tickets are priced at £35 + VAT.
