Everybody knows the Costa Brava as one of the most popular tourist destinations during the summer. The Costa Brava is the coastal area in northern Spain. For families with kids it's a great place to stay. Of course the beaches are beautiful and are a place where parents can rest and kids can play. But there's much more to see and to do. Some family activities are highlighted below.

Cap de Creus Natural Park
The Spanish government protects this area. It's one of the unique places on the Iberian Peninsula in the the north of the Costa Brava. The Cap de Creus Natural Park covers the municipal areas of El Port de la Selva, La Selva de Mar, Llança, Cadaqués, Palau-Saverdera, Pau, Roses and Vilajuïga. It has an abrupt coast with deep waters and plenty of small islands, very high cliffs, reefs of rocks made stark by erosion and the winds. There are forests in the inland and small hidden bays with transparent water, often only accessible from the sea. The singular nature of some rocks associated with the shape of animals, which over time have become mythical, are specially noteworthy.

The Waterworld theme-park
This is the largest water park on the Costa Brava with many rides and there's even a bungee jump. There are many water attractions, glides and pools. Children will enjoy a great time here. It's a good place for a day without lying on the beach and drinking cocktails. There's a free shuttle bus going to the park. The opening hours are from 10 am to 7 pm every day during summer.

Lloret de Mar – Gnomo theme-park
Close to Lloret de Mar there's a theme park called Gnomo park. This park is ideal for younger kids. There's a farm with gnomes, several attractions, a children's labyrinth, bowling lanes, mini golf and much more. There is also a snack bar and a restaurant in the park.

The Ruins of Empúries
Empúries is a small Spanish town on the Meditarranean coast. Greek colonists conquered this place in 575 before Christ. Later the Romans occupied the town. The ruins are midway the town L'Escala and the village of San Martí. There's a good car parking facility and the site may be reached by a traffic-free coastal walk from L'Escala. Special ruins to pay attention to are the Palaeochristian basilica, the Roman wall and the Roman mosaic.
