One of the best holiday destinations on the Costa Brava is the coastal town called Calella de Palafrugell. It's a village where fishermen live and sing the old shanties while drinking some rum.

May 25, 2011 - PRLog -- Located on the Costa Brava, Calella de Palafrugell  is a small fishing village and holiday resort which belongs to the municipality of Palafrugell along with Llafranc and Tamariu.
It's very quiet during the low season, few people live there. But in summer is a great holiday destination to spend some time at the beach far away from mass tourism, enjoying the sun and the sea.

It's nice to go to Calella de Palafrugell in the first week of July when the Havaneras festival takes place. It's advisable to see the Havaneras singing on the first Saturday of July which has been celebrated in the Cap Roig festival since 1966.  In the 40th anniversary of the Havaneras, the American folk and rock singer-song writer Bob Dylan performed a concert in the gardens of Cap Roig, within the 2006 Festival of Music of Cap Roig.
What is an havanera? Well, they are sea shanties originary from Cuba but very popular in Catalonia, specially on the Costa Brava. The most  popular is undoubtedly one named El meu avi (my grandfather) which Catalan people sing by heart and  which is a symbol of identity. But there isn't any havanera without the company of some cremat, this is coffee flared with rum, originary from Calella de Palafrugell, of course. The festival is celebrated in the great beach of Port-Bo and fishermen sing their songs about the sea while people hear them from their boats in the same beach.
In Cap Roig, there is a Botanical Garden, too. In this spacious area with huge terraces where you can admire all kinds of brightly colored Mediterranean flora. From there, you get a magnificent panoramic view of the coast that goes from Calella to the cliffs of Cap Roig.
Another beach which is worth a visit is El Golfet. Although it isn't in the same town, it's just a 15-minute walk on the coastline to get there and you can enjoy the impressive sights walking over the sea. There are other nice beaches such as Calau. In front of it you will find the beach Les Voltes, whose beautiful architecture is one of the landmarks of Calella de Palafrugell. It was built in the 19th century and it was used as a shelter by fishermen on a rainy day. Around the 1950s, the modern vaults of Miramar street were added.
So, if you'd like to visit Calella de Palafrugell you can rent an apartment and have one of the most wonderful holidays in your life. Check this site, there are interesting offers: http://www.costabrava-ok-apartment.com/en
