During the summer Spain is getting overloaded with tourists who want to relax on one of the many beaches.
Are you one of those people who like going to the beach but not all day? Do you want to combine your beach holiday with going to a nice city or undertake cultural activities?
Than Sitges is perhaps a very interesting holiday destination.
It's a small town 35 kilometers southwest of Barcelona. Sitges is most famous for its yearly Film Festival and Carnival.
Sitges, with its 17 sand beaches, is a popular holiday destination and very close to Barcelona.
Public transfer between Sitges and Barcelona is very well organized.
Also in Sitges are several interesting attraction worth a visit.


The Church of Santa Maria Sarroca

The present parish of Santa Maria was the old church of the Castle of Sant Martí, which existed around the Middle Age and had a small population.
The Church of Santa Maria was consecrated in 1204 and subsequently underwent successive changes in the Romanesque, including the addition of the bell on the dome.
The church has an apse that extends into a single ship.
This apse is both externally and internally the most succesful construction.
Outside, the apse is resolved by arches supported by high columns that start from the base.
Alternating arches fitted with great windows, but they all have an inner arch resting on great columns with decorated capitals.
The interior layout of the apse is similar.
The capitals are of high relief, representing mostly floral motifs, although some also are zoomorphic subject.
Finally, it is important that the corbels supporting the forward traveling around the set,showing human and monstrous faces.

Sitges Carnival
Carnival is not only an attraction of Brasil, but especially of Sitges, where one of the most important Carnival Festivals take place flooding literally the city with people.
It is a surprising performance that lasts a week and the streets carry out a veritable exhibition of aesthetic and artistic creativity.
Not to forget is also the importance of costume, makeup, pens, imaginative costumes and improbable scenarios on mobile platforms.

The main protagonist of the party: the Carnestoltes, loyal to the Catalan tradition, shows the most critical and burlesque side.
In the moment of reaching the town, it takes control of the town and also makes his satirical sermon (also called «predicot» in Catalan) on the balcony of the council. His character finally dies at the end of the week.
Recently another figure has gain more and more prominence: the Queen of Carnival.
His coach closes the parade of Sunday and Friday (days when there is more room) and is a representation that inspires and fills the carnival of beauty and sensibility.
For children there is also the Child Queen, who has a perfomance in the parades of Sunday and Shrove Tuesday.


The Street of Sin
The real name of this street is The Street of 1st May, but everyone knows this area by the name of The Street of Sin. It is the most famous street of Sitges having all the restaurants, pubs and music bars.
If you want to enjoy great food and drinks, or just want to dance until early in the morning, this street is a must. People from all over the world enjoy here their free time.
Forget not to mention, in this street, full of modern premises are always up-to-date, there is also a huge variety of local gay scene where you can dine, have a drink and dance in music venues and terraces.
