Amazon Angers Consumer’s Yet Again! ‘will they never learn?’ this Time its ‘Black Friday’

Furious Consumers Lash Out at Amazon’s ‘Black Friday’; Amazon’s Latest Scandal after the ‘Pedophile’s Guidebook’ and ‘Lessons in Cocaine Smuggling’

Nov. 25, 2010 - PRLog -- Thousands of British shoppers have been left severely disappointed after being denied early Christmas present bargains.

In a Christmas ‘lightning sale’ put on by online retail giant Amazon, consumers were promised the chance to make their Christmas money stretch further, but were left angry and frustrated as deals disappeared in a fraction of a second.

Watchdogs at the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) said they were ready to investigate complaints into the sale, with many customers feeling they were misled.

“UK families have felt the impact of the economic climate even harder this year”, stated Andrew James, spokesperson for Bad Credit Loans 4 You, a UK finance specialist at sourcing money for Christmas through Christmas loans and Xmas loans http://www.bad-credit-loans-4-you.co.uk/bad-credit-christmas-loan.html

“The ‘Black Friday’ offer looked like a great way to get sought-after presents at a fraction of the price, but it seems the deals were too good to be true for many consumers looking for the ultimate Christmas present.”

“Amazon must be careful not to alienate more customers, especially after the recent scandal of the paedophiles guidebook where it received complaints and a threatened boycott.”

Amazon was forced to bow down to hundreds of complaints from parents to remove a guidebook for paedophiles from its online store earlier this month.

The internet giant initially claimed it was ‘censorship’ to stop selling ‘The Paedophile’s Guide to Love and Pleasure: A Child Lover’s Code of Conduct’.

Amazon released a statement to the BBC which read; “Amazon believes it is censorship not to sell certain books simply because we or others believe their message is objectionable.”

“Amazon does not support or promote hatred or criminal acts, however, we do support the right of every individual to make their own purchasing decisions.”

A growing protest on Facebook, Twitter and its own site from disgusted customers threatening a boycott forced bosses to back down and remove the book.

Amazon allows authors to submit their own works, sharing revenue with them, but issues guidelines banning certain materials which includes those deemed offensive.

However, Amazon doesn't elaborate precisely what constitutes offensive content, stating simply that it is 'probably what you would expect'.

The most recent controversy surrounded a heavily promoted week of reductions, with up to 70 per cent off best-selling products such as the Nintendo Wii, Xbox games consoles, televisions and sofa’s.

Offers on the site yesterday included new albums from Take That and Susan Boyle for only £1, plus half price mountain bikes and 70% off fragrances and cameras, all potentially great ways of saving money at Christmas.

Many consumers have since called for an investigation into whether the deals were genuine.

“Amazon must be careful that their promotion does not backfire”, stated Andrew James, spokesperson for Bad Credit Loans 4 You.

“Some people may have seen the deals advertised and were relying on the savings to help lower the amount of Christmas money they were going to spend, or reduce their need for a Xmas loan.”

Amazon customers flooded online forums to complain that the bargains which they were chasing disappeared quicker than they could click their mouse.

Amazon made it clear that they were offering the products in ‘lightning sales’, warning that they would only run for a short time, but shoppers claim the products vanished so quickly they were impossible to purchase.

“Offers will take the form of ‘Lightning Deals’ with a limited quantity of an item being offered at a discount for a short period of time”, read a statement from the online retailer.

“Once that quantity has been reached or the time limit elapses, the ‘Lightning Deal’ will end.”

The ASA said its code required retailers to ensure there were a reasonable number of products available at the low price, but consumers are skeptical about the number of items that were available.

The code states; ‘Marketers must make a reasonable estimate of demand for advertised products.’

Amazon has also come under attack for selling objectionable content in its store before and it’s currently accepting pre-orders for the hardcover version of 'I Am the Market: How to Smuggle Cocaine by the Ton, in Five Easy Lessons' by Luca Rastello.

In 2002, the United States Justice Foundation, a conservative group, threatened to sue Amazon for selling 'Understanding Loved Boys and Boylovers'.
