Young Adults Needed to Fill 125 Paid Internships in New WORKFORCE CENTRAL FLORIDA Program

WORKFORCE CENTRAL FLORIDA is searching for young adults ages 18 to 21 to fill 125 internships available in its new program, the CAREER TRACK Connection, an employment internship program, which provides paid interns to local employers at no cost.
 
Nov. 16, 2010 - PRLog -- WORKFORCE CENTRAL FLORIDA (WCF) is searching for young adults ages 18 to 21 to fill 125 internships available in its new program, the CAREER TRACK Connection, an employment internship program, which provides paid interns to local employers at no cost.  Those who qualify will earn $8.50 per hour and work up to 30 hours per week for 12 weeks.

“The WORKFORCE CENTRAL FLORIDA CAREER TRACK Connection is a win, win situation for young job seekers and employers,” said Gary Earl, president and CEO of WORKFORCE CENTRAL FLORIDA.  “WORKFORCE CENTRAL FLORIDA will make the employee and employer connections and even write the payroll checks.  And our community’s young adults receive valuable work experience and new skills.”

JOB SEEKER ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
1. Age 18-21 and out of school (high school graduates, high school drop-outs and those out of work or in post-secondary education are welcome to apply)

2. Must be a resident of Orange, Osceola, Seminole, Lake or Sumter counties

3. Young adults who participated in the 2009 or 2010 Summer Job Connection are not eligible to apply

4. Are financially disadvantaged with low income AND have a barrier to employment:

   Low income is defined by the Workforce Investment Act (WIA) as an individual who:

       a. Receives, or is a member of a family that receives, cash payments such as Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) or Supplemental Security Income (SSI);

       b. Received an income, or is a member of a family that received a total family income, for the six-month period prior to application for the program involved that, in relation to family size, does not exceed the 70 percent of the lower living standard income level, for an equivalent period;

       c. Is a member of a household that receives, or has been determined eligible within the six-month period prior to application for the program involved to be eligible to receive, food stamps pursuant to the Food Stamp Act of 1977 (7 U.S.C. 2011 et seq.);

       d. Qualifies as a homeless individual, as defined in subsections (a) and (c) of section 103 of the Stewart B. McKinney Homeless Assistance Act (42 U.S.C. 11302);

       e. In cases permitted by regulations promulgated by the Secretary of Labor, is an individual with a disability whose own income meets the requirements of a program described in paragraphs “a” or “b” above, but who is a member of a family whose income does not meet such requirements.

   Barriers are defined as:

       a. Deficient in basic literacy skills;

       b. High school dropout;

       c. Homeless;

       d. Pregnant or a parent;

       e. An offender;

       f. An individual who requires additional assistance to complete an educational program or to secure and hold employment because of one of the following barriers:

           1.   Disability;
           2.   Lack of work history;
           3.   Has not worked for the same employer for longer than three consecutive months in the 12 months prior to registration;
           4.   Lack of employability skills;
           5.   Natural disasters;

5. Must complete Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) and score 6.0 in reading.

6. Must complete National Retail Federation (NRF) customer service training and pass certification.

WORKFORCE CENTRAL FLORIDA is also searching for employers for the program.  WCF makes the employer employee connections and pays the wages of the young adults in the program, who will work 30 hours a week for 12 weeks making $8.50 per hour.

The following employers from Orange, Osceola, Seminole, Lake, Seminole or Sumter counties may qualify:
1.   Non profit or government agency

2.   For-profit employers with job opportunities in STEM (science, technology, engineering or math), green or emerging jobs or in one of the Top 20 Job Categories in the Private Sector including:

       a.   Administrative Services Managers
       b.   Booking, Accounting and Auditing Clerks
       c.   Cardiovascular Technologists and Technicians
       d.   Chefs
       e.   Computer Programmers
       f.   Computer Support Specialists
       g.   Dental Assistants
       h.   Executive Secretaries and Administrative Assistants
       i.   Heating, A.C., and Refrigeration Mechanics and Installers
       j.   Licensed Practical and Licensed Vocational Nurse
       k.   Massage Therapists
       l.   Medical and Health Services Manager
       m.   Medical Assistant
       n.   Medical and Clinical Laboratory Technology
       o.   Medical Records and Health  Information Technicians
       p.   Medical Secretary
       q.   Network and Computer Systems Administrators
       r.   Physical Therapist Assistant
       s.   Registered Nurse
       t.   Truck Drivers, Heavy and Tractor-Trailer
