Oct. 21, 2010 - PRLog -- “What the heck is a dinette?”

That’s the question one local business has been asking on the street and featuring the answers in this hilarious video posted to YouTube and Facebook. And no one’s quite sure.

That’s why Dinette Gallery, a family-owned store in Columbus that’s been in business for over 31 years, has launched a contest state-wide for a new name.

“A lot has changed in the last 31 years,” says the store owner Gary Vinson, “Including the names we’ve used for our furniture. We realized few people really understand what we’re selling anymore. We decided it’s time to give our store and our name an update.”

That’s why Vinson, and his wife and son who help him run Dinette Gallery, came up with the idea to launch a state-wide contest for the best name. The winner will receive $1000 toward a new dining room set, just in time for Thanksgiving dinner. Anyone can enter on the store’s website or Facebook page. They are also using the opportunity to bring attention to Habitat for Humanity Columbus, a charity they volunteer with and support.

“We are thrilled when businesses like Dinette Gallery make donations that help support the mission of Habitat for Humanity,” says E.J. Thomas, CEO of Habitat for Humanity- Greater Columbus. “The proceeds from the sale of the furniture in our ReStore will go to support our organization, and will free up funds for constructing new homes for Columbus area families in need of a helping hand.”

“We know a lot of families are not as blessed as we have been over the years with a thriving business that is our own,” says store co-owner Phil Vinson. “We know our community was hit hard by this economy and the recent housing crisis. That’s why we participate in build days with Habitat for Humanity, and why we decided to make a donation to their organization during our re-naming campaign.”

The deadline for entries in the New Name Contest is Friday November 5, 2010. The winner will be announced just before the Thanksgiving Holiday.
