Oct. 19, 2010 - PRLog -- Swansea based artist and lecturer of Fine Art at Swansea Metropolitan University, Tim Davies, has recently been named as the artist who will be representing Wales at the 54th Venice Biennale in 2011.

To celebrate this great achievement, the Glynn Vivian Art Gallery will be hosting an afternoon with Tim Davies on Friday 22 October.

From 3.30pm Tim Davies will be joined in conversation with his gallerist, Tom Rowland, to discuss his recent selection and to talk about his previous work.

The talk will be followed by a drinks reception from 5-7pm where Tim will be on hand to chat with friends and followers and thank his supporters.

Everyone is welcome to attend and both events are free.

Tim has a long standing relationship with the Glynn Vivian Gallery through various previous exhibitions such as Continuum (1997); Elsewhere (2003) and Between a Rock and A Hard Place (2009) as well as being awarded the gallery’s Wakelin Purchase Award in 2005.

Tim Davies said, “The Glynn Vivian is an important gallery which is committed to showing the work of artists from Wales at various stages in their career, as well as exhibiting artists from around the world.

“As someone who lives and works in Swansea, it feels right to celebrate my participation in next year's Venice Biennale here in my home city.”

The winner of the Fine Art Gold Medal at the National Eisteddfod in 2003, Tim was selected for Artes Mundi 1 in 2004. In 2008 he was a Major Creative Wales Award recipient from Arts Council of Wales.

The Glynn Vivian Art Gallery recently curated an exhibition of Tim’s work in 2009, Between a Rock and a Hard Place,  currently being shown at Mostyn, Llandudno until 6 November, 2010.

Gordon Dalton, Interpretation Officer at the Glynn Vivian said, “We are very happy to welcome Tim back to the Glynn Vivian and celebrate his selection for Wales at the Venice Biennale. His work always proves popular and Tim will be talking about some of the themes and influences as he goes into a very important year for him, representing  Wales at Venice.”
