ReliAble Independent Living Services has Made me "Really Able" to Live Independently

At the end of January 2010 I suffered a third serious fall resulting in three fractured bones in my shoulder. After a month of convalescent care, I was both excited and apprehensive to return to my apartment, my oasis from the hustle and bustle of daily living. It was apparent to me that modifications were needed for me to safely remain at home. This was confirmed by a home assessment conducted by an occupational therapist (OT) who was sent by the Community Care Access Centre (CCAC). Several of these changes included using a walker when I go out, wearing a lifeline necklace and using Wheel Trans instead of taking regular public transit. Modifications to my bathroom and powder room were also essential for accident prevention.

Through a personal contact I met Ronny Wiskin, founder and CEO of ReliAble Independent Living Services® and several members of his team. With precision and care they took the time to measure for the best locations for my height for the two bars in the shower and one for each toilet. In addition their workers installed an adjustable, hand held shower with skill and ease.

By far the most amazing transformation was the toilet platforms placed under the toilets to raise them to a safer height. When the OT initially recommended two plastic toilet seats, I resisted the entire idea. They were ugly, hard to clean and made my washrooms seem institutional. After talking to Ronny, he suggested installing toilevators. I was so pleased with the concept and embraced this solution. Although barely visible, it is easier and safer for me to have the toilets raised.

I am elated with the results that are both safer and aesthetically pleasing to the eye. I am also impressed with the ReliaAble team’s passion for their work, and compassion for their clients. It matches their excellent expertise and dedication. I am delighted to experience a business whose ethos integrates sensitivity and understanding individual needs with extensive knowledge, problems-solving skills and expert workmanship. As well, the modifications were completed in a timely manner, which increases my admiration for the firm.

Ronny also found a solution for my bathtub. Because it is separate from my shower, he suggested I contact Silver Cross Toronto, a sister small business who sells equipment for barrier-free living. He gave me their telephone number. They came out and recommended a remote control-operated bath chair that lowers one in and out of the tub with ease. I can once again luxuriate with a relaxing bath!

I am forever grateful to ReliAble Independent Living Services® and would highly recommend it to anyone who needs barrier-free modifications. ReliAble made the adjustment period to all the necessary changes I underwent easier for me. Most importantly, the modifications the business made to my environment made it feasible for me to remain in my home independently. ReliAble truly deserve its name because my independence has been made possible in a reliable way.
