Dollinger, “Cool Stuff” and Broker Panel Highlight Second Morning of CMLS 2010 Conference

Speakers deliver again on the second morning of CMLS 2010

Oct. 1, 2010 - PRLog -- CHICAGO – One might think that following a great start yesterday, the CMLS 2010 conference, hosted by Midwest Real Estate Data LLC (MRED), would have trouble matching its opening day. Based upon the attendees’ reactions the second day has been just as successful.

Matt Dollinger, Vice President of Strategic Development at @properties, one of the largest and fastest growing real estate brokerages in Chicago, started off the day with a provocative look at the importance of not only leaders, but followers.  The main theme of Matt’s talk was “Where would a leader be if he had no followers who shared that leader’s passion?”  What a leader does is create a movement of evangelists by understanding and addressing the needs of the many.  Matt asked, “What makes you a leader?” and the answer is that a leader is a follower as well.  In fact, followers emulate other followers, not the leader, and there is no movement without the first follower.  Matt summed this up by saying, “As a leader, you should make following you easy; you need to embrace your followers as your equals; and you need to make the movement about them, not you.”

After Mr. Dollinger, representatives from four multiple listing services did presentations about “Cool Stuff,” i.e. a new product or service that other organizations would be interested in utilizing.  Attendees learned about software either in development or currently being utilized for market analytics, RETS software that can send data anywhere you want it to go, with customized feeds that filter out the data you specify, and a widget that agents can use to send their active listings to social networks and other websites.

Following the “Cool Stuff” presentations, Gregg Larson from Clareity Consulting reviewed results from a broker survey issued by Clareity and RealTrends.  A broker panel was convened afterward to comment on the survey results.  While per the survey results, more brokers oppose an MLS consumer facing website currently than support it, the smaller office brokers on the panel supported such a site.  Also, slightly more than half of the survey respondents favored the MLSs doing data syndication, but the conclusion of the panel was that this is a subject the respondents really do not understand, which affects the credibility of the responses.  The complete survey results are being released Monday, October 4th.
