Sept. 24, 2010 - PRLog -- With 50 days yet to go in the SongDoor 2010 International Songwriting Competition, organizers say they've already surpassed last year's entry totals. Complete information is available at http://www.songdoor.com.

SongDoor 2010, which is sponsored by SongU.com, 16 Ton Studios, Broadjam, Tanager Audioworks, NueWave Studios and Masterwriter, is among the top 10 songwriting competitions in the world after launching just four years ago. The competition has quickly gained the support of major industry forces like ASCAP and Digital Rodeo, an innovative "country music mySpace" which came on board as a partner last year.

"The word-of-mouth about SongDoor has always been positive and continues to be so," explains Tony Zotta, SongDoor president. "Our numbers are up, a surprise in this economy. We recognize that people's disposable income isn't what it used to be, and we appreciate their loyalty." Organizers are looking to significantly outdo last year's entry tally, as the "crush" has yet to come; more than 40% of SongDoor's entries are expected in the last two weeks of the compeition, which ends November 15.

"Our competition is quite different," adds Tony Zotta. "The entry fee is $10, just to cover our costs. In return, entrants receive a self-paced songwriting course of their choosing at SongU.com and free songwriting software - it might be for melody-writing, or chord creation … this year it's notation software. The course and software are valued at $120. Getting $120 worth of songwriter's tools for an entry fee of $10 is a pretty good return-on-investment. People always think there's a catch, but there isn't."

"That's why we decided to partner with them," says Eric Brengle (owner of Nashville's NueWave Studios), who has recently worked with The Fray and Train. "The people behind SongDoor honestly care about the writers and actually do something to help them improve. They are very sincere people."

Entrants are eligible to win the Grand Award, valued at approximately USD $7,745 in music merchandise and services, including a fully-produced professional demo at 16 Ton Studios. Other awards include a one-year Platinum Membership to SongU.com,  MasterWriter software, Tanager Audioworks software, a Broadjam membership and more. Six Category Winners each receive a valuable package of awards worth more than $5,300, including a production demo at NueWave Studios. The total awards purse is more than $39,600 this year.

Judges include seasoned music industry producers, artists and engineers who have worked with/for such artists as Britney Spears, Neil Young, *NSYNC, The Fray, Train, Justin Timberlake, Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Allman Brothers, Jimmy Buffett, Hot Apple Pie, Little Texas, Kenny Rogers, The Charlie Daniels Band and many others.

The deadline for this year's competition is November 15; entries are accepted online or by mail. Complete entry information is available at www.songdoor.com.
