Sept. 14, 2010 - PRLog -- Santa Barbara, CA - Fall is in the air and Halloween soon will unleash hoardes of zombies, ghouls and ghosts for one chilling night of the year. To kick off the autumn festivities, Virtual University is hosting a Horror Short Story Writing Contest. The contest will be conducted on Facebook using a new "Writers Roundtable" group.

The writing contest is open to beginning and advanced writers, with no entry fee and no purchase required. Authors of the scariest short stories can win a $50 cash prize, a $25 Virtual University gift coupon, or a distinctive award certificate.

Submissions must be written in the horror genre, in English, between 2,5000 and 5,000 words in length. Entries must be received by November 30, 2010. Further details about the contest and official rules can be found at http://ksurf.net/contests/horror-writing.html

The new course, "The Art of Writing Horror," is taught by noted horror writer and educator Laurie Notch. The course has a $30 registration fee and enrollment is now open. Writers desiring first-hand insights into this popular genre of fiction will learn the formula for writing a potential horror bestseller. Enrollment in the course is not required to participate in the contest. For more information about the course or to enroll, visit the class home page at http://vu.ksurf.net/catalog/3112.html
