KSURF Releases Free News Widget and 'News Desk' Web Application

NewsWave doubles as a free news widget that can add fresh content to any blog or website, and an expanded "news desk" that allows Web surfers to browse breaking news from across the Web with a few mouse clicks.

May 10, 2012 - PRLog -- KSURF today announced the launch of NewsWave 3.0, a free news widget that displays real-time headlines from hundreds of popular news sites and can be easily added to any blog or Web page. Bloggers and website owners can configure the widget to display news feeds on suitable topics, providing visitors with interesting and always-fresh content.

The NewsWave widget can be tailored to fit the theme of any website or blog, and it can be resized to fit any space, ranging from a narrow sidebar to a full-page display. A convenient design tool can be used to select a news feed and resize the widget with a few mouse clicks. NewsWave widgets are free for both personal and commercial use on any website.

More than a just a news widget, NewsWave doubles as a powerful Web app that expands into full-page mode, giving Web surfers access to breaking headlines on topics of interest via a "news desk" interface. NewsWave feeds are grouped under major headings, such as U.S. and World News, Politics, Business, Tech, Weird News, Freebies/Deals, Health, Science and Sports, among others. Selecting a topic loads a news desk with dozens of real-time news feeds from across the Web – and if users don't see their favorite news or blog feeds listed, they can submit a request to add them.

NewsWave was launched as a collection of news widgets in 2005. Since then, it has grown into a multi-purpose Web app. Developer Richard De A'Morelli says he got the idea to expand the app because he was spending "way too much time every day wandering around several dozen news sites." With NewsWave, he says that he can browse dated-sorted headlines from dozens of websites and blogs in just minutes.

NewsWave 3.0 has a "social" flavor as well, reflecting the popularity of websites such as Facebook and Google+. Widgets can be customized to display feeds of interest to a specific group of users and shared across multiple websites to build community. A public discussion forum framework is being developed that will allow users to post and reply to comments on breaking news in a central location rather than having their posts scattered across the Web. Features are also in the works that will allow users to share interesting news stories and their comments on Facebook, Google+ and MySpace.
