May 22, 2010 - PRLog -- The 250 acre low density development scheme at Chesterford Research Park was recently given the seal of approval by a delegation of visitors from Spain.

The mission was organised by Kerry Farrell, UK Trade & Investment Spain, and John Dow, EEDA Invest, in the East of England.

The group, made up of representatives from two Government Agency’s - Invest in Spain and Genoma España - the Spanish Biotechnology Trade Association ASEBIO, The Spanish Institute of Foreign Trade (ICEX) and Era7, a research driven company specialising in Next Generation Sequencing (NGS)  were in the UK as the guest country for the Anglo-Nordic conference in London. Their visit to the South Cambridgeshire Biotech Cluster was an opportunity to showcase the strengths and opportunities within the area as well as to develop long-term relationships and partnerships.

The delegation enjoyed a morning of presentations which provided not only a solid overview of regional services and opportunities, but also insight into more specific areas, such as access to funding, the identification of potential partners and legal issues relating to the life sciences industry in the UK.

Martin Sylvester, Director Churchmanor Estates plc, joint developers of Chesterford (http://www.chesterfordresearchpark.com) with Aviva Investors presented an overview of the Park and its on-site support services.  He commented of the visit: “It is a great complement to the successful development of the Park to be asked by EEDA Invest to host this particular delegation.  We were delighted to not only be able to share our experiences to date with the group, but to also showcase first-hand the quality of Science Park developments in the UK with Chesterford as our backdrop”.

Mindful of the very specific requirements of R&D companies at every stage of their lifecycle and in an effort to constantly evolve and increase the facilities available to new occupiers at Chesterford, the joint venture partners are constantly pushing development plans forward at Chesterford Research Park.

Planning permission has been granted on the Science Village development, a low energy building which will allow for flexible use as laboratory enabled suites with associated write up & admin areas.  The occupancy options range from a single approximately 28,000 sq ft net internal area occupier to 16 individual suite occupiers - 8 at approximately 1,510 sq ft and 8 at approximately 1,965 sq ft.

Representing the ultimate in future proof design on a larger scale, the Robinson Laboratory, for which planning permission has also been granted, will provide two separate wings of laboratory space, linked by an elegant atrium designed to house an impressive reception area and a versatile range of meeting rooms.  As always at Chesterford significant thought has also been given to the external finish of the building, with sympathetic landscaping of the immediate area adding to the overall aesthetic.

The joint venture partners remain keen to see construction getting under way in 2010.
