The series, divided into the IC-F3002 (16 channel) for VHF and IC-F4002 (16 channel) for UHF, offer simple operation, high performance and strong commercial build at a very low cost. Simplicity is the key behind the design of these transceivers. There are just three main controls; transmit button, volume control and channel selector and two further programmable buttons down the side. This simple interface makes it ideal for high turnover environments and shift work where the radio is constantly passed from person to person. These models are extremely rugged having been tested to 11 categories of environmental military standards for dust protection and water resistance making them extremely suited to outdoor use and, as a bonus are pleasingly compact

Simplicity in design is backed up by great features and high performance. The IC-F3002 series features highly efficient circuitry which reduces battery consumption, providing up to a massive 20 hours of operating time with the supplied BP-265 2000mAh lithium ion battery pack. A rapid charger is included in the pack to complement the high capacity battery.

The IC-F3002 series has several safety features, most notably a loan worker function. If the IC-F3002 is not used for a preset period of time, an emergency signal automatically transmits and alerts co-workers or dispatcher control to any potential trouble.

The IC-F3002 series features outstanding audio quality, the best ever from Icom in this class of radio. The improved audio is provided from a built in amplifier that provides 800mW audio output from the large 45mm speaker. This means that this model can deliver loud and intelligible audio even in extremely noisy environments such as a busy shop floor or construction site.

The IC-F3002 series contains many standard features allowing it to fit in with existing systems including built-in 5-Tone encoder/decoder, CTCSS/DTCS capabilities, DTMF autodial and priority scan. In addition to these features, this series has a VOX function giving a user the capability of hands free operation.
