By: Agora Gallery An Australian figurative artist, Libby Primmer paints work that is at times a whimsical and playful observation of human relationships. Her topics often come from such sources as childhood memories, marriage, motherhood and family, as well as day-to-day experiences. There is a rich narrative aspect to her work, and she skillfully expresses the pathos and frailty of her subjects, especially through the facial details of her women and children. At times her paintings have an aspect of fantasy, and at other times she takes her subject matter from classic stories and history, yet her work always expresses a strong sense of the beauty of nature. Libby has said that her true inspiration lies in the work process by which she creates each painting, which she compares to the feeling of anticipation prior to settling down to read a long-awaited book. This connection in her work to the primary human need for stories speaks of her beautiful paintings' ability to touch and inspire the viewer.
