The Box Contemporary Art Gallery Presents Fathom: An Underwater Introspective.

The Box presents Fathom, featuring the work of artists Amanda Chakravarty, Anna Judd, Michael Pukac, Tibor, and Stephanie Han Windham. This collection will open at the Costa Mesa gallery on Saturday May 15, 2010, from 7:00 PM until 10:00 PM.

May 10, 2010 - PRLog -- "It has been said that we know more of the surface of the moon than that of the ocean", says curator Johnny Sampson.  "With this as our starting point, Fathom becomes an exhibition exploring the depths, not only of the deep sea, but also of the human condition—it is an introspective journey which offers a glimpse at the mysteries which lie beneath the surface".  Playing on the word’s meaning of six feet deep, Fathom also hints at man’s mortality and his struggle for understanding and significance.  In this exhibition presented by The Box gallery, serene creatures as well as fantastic monsters hint at both the playful and darker aspects of the psyche.  "The ocean is a source of boundless inspiration", says Sampson, "Where the leviathan lurks, so also swims the clownfish".  Fathom is a show of joy and wonder, dreams and nightmares, and contemporary art work at it’s highest, and deepest, levels of accomplishment.

As a cancer fighter / survivor, Illinoisan artist Amanda Chakravarty makes joyful paintings upon wood panels, allowing the grain of the wood to provide a water-like setting for her anthropomorphized fish creatures.

Santa Ana artist Anna Judd's photo-realistic oils are both tranquil and provocative, capturing a meditative moment in stunning detail.

Michael Pukac's alluring figurative fantasies combine both whimsy and narrative.  Employing metallic and acrylic paints, he depicts the heroic feminine in vivid illumination.

Self-taught Southern Californian artist Tibor's mixed media “faux-sils” utilize both copper and acrylic to create powerful fossil-like images.

Born in Seoul, South Korea, Stephanie Han Windham's serene and uplifting acrylics combine strong color and subject to form enchanting work of sublime depth and passion.

The exhibition will run through Friday, July 2, 2010.
