For Courting A Male Panda Stayed Under A Tree For Nine Nights And Days

In Qinling,China,A male panda stayed for nine nights and days under a tree to court a female panda who was on the tree.All the field staffs and panda experts were astonished as nobody has ever seen this before.

“Panda ‘courting scene’like this are very rare.”Qinling panda expert Liang said.During March to May of every year,staffs can see these “courting scenes” as pandas are in oestrous period.On 21st,March,when staffs were patroling they saw two adult pandas chasing in bamboo forest and later a panda climbed on a tree while the other panda stayed under the tree.The next day staffs found that the two pandas were still there and the female panda was still on a tree while the male panda still stayed under the tree.Staffs were supprised and curious and so decided to observe them for days.It is said that during the nine days staffs got the spot at 9:00 am and observed them from a sufficicent distance and left at 5:00 pm.

Util 28th March,after the male panda waited for seven nights and days without water and food,here came a dramatic scene:another male came!Although the male panda was seriously exhausted,he went and wristled with the stranger with no fear.

Liang said that “the two male pandas started a fierce battle for the right to mate.They fighted from the top of a hillside to the valley. Their grunts and cries echoed down the valley.The scene was very fierce and the battle lasted for more than 20 minutes.Both of the pandas were badly hurt but the male panda who stayed under a tree won.The stranger ran away.
Interestingly,the female panda fleed to look for food during they were fighting.When the winner came back seeing the empty tree,he was very helpless and stayed under the tree again.

Fighting for the right to mate is common in panda oestrous period.But it is rare to see such a fierce tussle.

On 29th March,staffs did not patrol because of rainy day.On 30th,staffs came back here.“We found that they have been together and then the female panda tamly leant againt the male panda who was tired.By this token,they have enjoyed the happy time.”
