National seminar on Cyber law: Policies Issues & Emerging Trends

April 21, 2010 - PRLog -- The abuse of cyber space has also given birth to a gamut of new age crimes that are addressed by the Information. Cyber crimes can involve criminal activities that are traditional in nature, such as theft, fraud, forgery, defamation and mischief, all of which are subject to the Indian Penal Code. Crime always brings down a nation. Cybercrimes destroys young people’s quest for adequate skill acquisition and vocational training. Recognizing the dire need for defining information utility along with computer security and cyber laws; a national seminar was organized by Centre for Criminal Justice Administration, Dr. Ram Manohar Lohiya National Law University, Lucknow. This knowledge sharing platform was a tremendous initiative by The Department of Higher Education with the technical support of Department of information Technology, Government of Uttar Pradesh. The aim of this conference was to explore the growing relationship between computer security and national security. All papers are peer-reviewed, selected and later published based on an original and substantial contribution toward understanding this increasing threat.


                                                            The seminar was able to achieve all its proposed objectives, such as sensitizing the participants with a view to make them aware of the emerging security issues and threats in the cyberspace and to study and analyze the implications and effect of the Information Technology (Amendment) Act, 2008 on regulation of offences, and trade & commerce activities in the cyber space. The seminar was able to draw a clear outline about various issues in cyber space for educating Civil Society groups about the legal and constitutional issues and stakes involved, thereby assuring citizens regarding their concerns on privacy, personal liberty and freedom. The seminar mainly focused on the issues involved in cyber law  identify the possible areas of conflict and operational problems, to make citizens aware of various kinds of commonly committed cyber offences such as Fraud, Identity Theft, Hacking, Phishing etc. in order to educate and prepare the citizens about their role in keeping vigilance with regard to the same.

The seminar had participants from different walks of life including distinguished technocrats and cyber-security experts, distinguished members of the Bench and Bar, Senior Police Officers, Criminal Justice Academicians, Civil Society Groups and university Students.
