Radon Tee Bowled Over With Support At Lord's

This week Radon Tee visited the “Home of Cricket” Lord’s and was bowled over with support from the venue

April 12, 2010 - PRLog -- The base of Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC), Lord’s is the ‘Home of Cricket’. The World-famous ground in St John’s Wood, London has been the setting for some of the best cricket matches ever seen, since hosting its first match in 1814.

Filming and photography at the ground are strictly controlled, but the UK Radon Tee team from ProTen Services were quick to gain the support of MCC’s Media Manager, Clare Skinner.

So impressed was Ms Skinner with the message of the campaign, she took this photograph of ProTen Managing Director, Martin Freeman with the Radon Tee herself. In the background is the iconic Investec Media Stand.

After gaining the support of the world of cricket, Martin attended a meeting of a group involving structural waterproofers. Basement conversions are becoming increasingly common in the UK, with many people seeing the potential value of creating useable extra space beneath their buildings.

This means, however, that more people are spending significant periods of time either at home or work in below-ground areas. These have been well-documented to be particularly susceptible to radon intrusion.

A new Code of Practice for below-ground waterproofing was launched in the UK in November 2009 (BS8102: 2009), which called for radon to be taken into account during the design and installation of a basement waterproofing system. This Code is a welcome development by all those knowledgeable about the dangers of radon gas. However, resistance has been shown by many in the waterproofing industry, who currently prefer not to take these well-documented risks on board.

The foreword by Prof. William Angell to the World Health Organisation Radon Handbook published in September 2009 clearly lays out that indoor radon levels are the responsibility of those involved in the construction of the building, so it is likely that the waterproofers will ultimately be stimulated into recognising the problem through litigation rather than willingly through education.

The Radon Tee World Trek 2010 is an initiative sponsored by US non-profit organisation, CanSAR (Cancer Survivors Against Radon) CanSAR is dedicated to preventing radon-induced lung cancer and saving lives through education and awareness, and the Radon Tee campaign aims to bring social awareness to communities through the power of photos, videos and personal stories.

ProTen Services are taking the Tee on a national tour and will be adding photos to the social media campaign at www.facebook.com/radontee.
