Pastor Miles McPherson, a former San Diego Charger, founder of the Rock Church, and author of “DO Something: Make Your Life Count,” has issued a call to action to the more than 12,000 people who attend the Rock. McPherson founded a "Do Something World" campaign to bring people together and take action to directly transform the lives of the people and City of San Diego, and the world. Last year, the Rock Church donated 615,956 hours of community service to the City of San Diego (valued at $9.6 million*) with 166,251 of these hours given directly to Mayor Jerry Sanders for projects specifically identified by him, saving the city $2.6 million. This year’s goal is 700,000 hours, with 200,000 hours going directly to the Mayor’s projects. Michael Brunker, Executive Director of Jackie Robinson YMCA shares, "Jackie Robinson once said, 'I want to help where it is needed more.' The Rock Church has set the standard for not only helping where it’s needed more, but in asking the question “what more can we do to serve San Diego?” This community event is one of four major events scheduled in San Diego this year, among the Rock's numerous and ongoing service projects. (The others will be announced at a later date.) Additional News The Rock has over 90 ministries with ongoing service to San Diego including convalescent homes, foster youth, cancer patients, homeless and more. This coming May, McPherson along with 80 volunteers from Miles Ahead will travel to the Cayman Islands for an international Do Something World volunteer event. They will spend the week working alongside local leadership and volunteers in service projects. The team will also train Cayman leaders with the Do Something World service model.
