April 3, 2010 - PRLog -- Following a successful exhibition in ‘Abstract Stills and Movement’ last year at Artroom Gallery as well as the paintings being used as a backdrop for of an independent film recorded at the gallery, a new exhibition appropriately entitled ‘Seascape Dreams’ is displayed until 02nd May featuring highly representational new paintings by collectable international artist Alexander Slatter, who has made his return to Parkgate in this eight week solo exhibition integrated with Artroom’s other local and national artists.

Alexander is delighted to be return to the Cheshire area, as beaches, waves and the seas are the main concept for his outstanding oil painted canvases, which range from large squares to panoramic views of his much loved subject and he can’t imagine a more appropriate place to display his works than in Parkgate.

Alexander has been painting and studying his subject for over eight years and says it’s turned into a full-time addiction. His style can be described as contemporary romanticism, drawing on the tradition of European landscape painting.

“My wave paintings really started as a direct result of being out on the beaches and on the water in yachts and kayaks. I love the sea in all its moods, from the flat calm of a creek or summer evening to experiencing the fury of a force”.

Alexander continues to describe his work in that there are other important elements he observes, which includes the graphical patterns that the sea formed by the sea.

“Light is of course the key to variety, and I split my wave paintings into ‘English colourways’ and ‘Mediterranean colourways’. One of the main fascinations of painting wavescapes are the amazing pattern structures that nature creates; pattern is everywhere just waiting to happen. At first the sea and waterfront may seem a chaotic place, however with careful observation one starts to see clear sets of structures which seem to follow simple rules. These simple rules in turn create extremely complex patterns. This is nature’s ability to turn simplicity into inexplicable complexity.

Michelle Linger from Artroom Gallery deals with all her artists directly and finds visitors to the gallery in the past have also been fascinated by other aspects of Alexander’s works.

“As well as the feelings of the waves and the way Alexander continues his seascapes which wrap around the sides of the canvases it is the movement and fascination and people really believe they have been drawn inside the canvas and are on the beach. They consistently see more within his canvases as they observe the picture. People also love the works as the subject’s flexibility means it can be displayed in any environment”.
